Monologues are a building block for all actors. Monologues get us access to representation like agents and managers, can help you when meeting casting directors, and are used all over for auditions. Next to an actor’s headshot and resume, the monologue is the actor’s performing calling card. Selecting the right material for you helps you put your best foot forward.
Monologues need to be appropriate for who you are, for whom you’re performing, and the kind of piece you may be auditioning for. We take all these factors into account and make sure to match our students with pieces that they connect with and that excite them and that will help them get the access they desire.
Monologue Selection
Finding the "perfect" monologue is the most daunting part of audition preparation. Our coaches work with actors to find a monologue that suits their personality, playwrights that match their style and monologues that showcase their strengths. Our collection includes hundreds of monologues that are fresh and never overdone.
Our coaches will work with you to find a piece that you are confident with and excited to perform. Between hundreds of contemporary and classical monologues, students leave with pieces that they can’t wait to get to work on.
Building Your Repertoire
It's important to build your repertoire of monologues. After awhile, many actors get tired of their “go-to” monologue and need something new. We'll work with you to expand your repertoire with pieces that will round out your collections. Typically, actors look for pieces that will compliment their other monologues. If actors usually do comedic contemporary pieces, we help them find the perfect dramatic piece. If an actor has a specific audition they are going out for, we can help pick a monologue that will target the desired character they want to play.
